Oh, very nice! I love this style, SJ--very unique, and it really gives a lot of personality to the characters! Using a little softer color for the animal works, no? Dark, but not black--it keeps the silhouette visible in the b/g, but doesn't pull too much attention from the main focus, the human character. Great--looking forward to the next one!
